Quite simply, the better an individual is able to mimic its surroundings, the less likely a predator is to spot it. This gives it a better chance of mating and passing its genes on to the next generation.

Natural selection is survival of the fittest. A less fit species that can mimic a fit species improves survival chances. The ability to camouflage also increases the chances. Homologous and vestigial structures have minimal chances of survival.
