Nitrogen is used for?

- Controls combustion-Dilutes activity of oxygen in the air -Essential for growth of plants and animals- constituent for proteins

How will burning be affected if nitrogen is not in air to act as a diluent for oxygen?

Nitrogen being diluent for the gases in our atmosphere reduces the combustion process as it dilutes the oxygen in the atmosphere, otherwise every combustion process will be very rapid and will start with a bang. :)

What purpose does nitrogen in the air serve?

Nitrogen slows down the action of oxygen

What are the two main gases?

Hydrogen and Nitrogen. Or oxygen and carbon dioxide, or carbon monoxide.

Why is nitrogen so important in the atmosphere?

Nitrogen is important because it is a key building block of amino acids and thus proteins and living things. It acts as a fertilizer. During a thunder storm lightning converts some nitrogen to more soluble forms and when it rains it thus acts as a natural nitrogenous fertilizer. Also, if all the atmosphere was oxygen, this would create a very flammable situation. The nitrogen which is almost inert thus "dilutes" the oxygen. Even in a hospital when someone has breathing diffficulty, they use 50% oxygen 50% air rather than pure oxygen.

What are the components of clean air?

Argon, Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen

What does oxygen oxygen nitrogen make?

NO2, or nitrogen dioxide.

What is lighter oxygen or nitrogen?

Nitrogen is lighter than oxygen

What elements does nitrogen have?

nitrogen, carbon, oxygen are what make up nitrogen dioxide.

What do Nitrogen and oxygen form?

Nitrogen oxide can refer to a binary compound of oxygen and nitrogen, or a mixture of such compounds.

Is a nitrogen an oxygen?

Nitrogen and oxygen are individual elements with different properties.
