Oil is typically found below natural gas deposits. This is because oil is denser than natural gas and tends to settle at lower depths in the Earth's crust. As a result, oil deposits are often located beneath natural gas reservoirs.

Technically, a hole about ten inches wide or so is all that is required to extract oil from the ground. There really is no relationship between areas of land and the production of gas. Gas is manufactured in a refinery after being extracted through oil wells.
