  1. Prepare the materials that you will use: diaper, disposable gloves, cotton, soap, basin of water.
  2. Loosen the soiled diaper, then gently clean the soiled area with cotton soaked with water and soap. Rinse it with cotton soaked with water. Remove the soiled diaper afterwards and drape the elderly.
  3. Have the elderly turn to her side and gently insert half of the diaper under the buttocks. Then have her turn to the other side to pull half of the diaper.
  4. On prone position, (still keeping the drapes over the genitals), secure the diaper on the front. Gently pull the drape then secure the tapes on the diaper. Throw the soiled diaper, cotton and disposable gloves on properly labeled trash basket. Clean the equipments and wash your hands.

To put a diaper on a bedridden elderly person, first lay the person flat on their back. Then unfold the diaper, slide it underneath them, and fasten the tabs securely. Make sure the diaper is positioned comfortably to prevent leaks and change it regularly to maintain hygiene.

What if someone tries to charge you with elder abuse they claim that you were negligent with their care they woke up soaking wet with diaper on and dried feces on them They also said I took a shirt?

Some people mean well and are overly sensitive to what they term as elder abuse. It is not uncommon for the elderly to have to wear diapers while sleeping or through the day. Generally during the night the elderly person could urinate or leave feces in their diaper and this is no different than a baby doing the same thing. The elderly lose muscle control and the bottom line is their bodies are breaking down. As long as the caregiver gives the elderly person the best care they can then they cannot be legally accused of being abusive. As long as you are seeing to the needs on a 24/7 basis (even if you have to get part-time care in); taking this elderly person to their doctor's appointments; being sure they get the best medical care; are fed properly; given their medications on time; bathe them one or more times a day with clean clothing or nightwear then this is not elderly abuse. It is not uncommon for someone who knows the elderly individual to accuse the caregiver of stealing certain things from that elderly person, but the accuser has to prove it. It would be wise if you saw a lawyer regarding this to protect yourself from these allegations.

How does a caregiver change an adult diaper?

First off you have to get the adult to lie on his or her bed/changing table. Then pull down the person's pants, followed by undoing the tapes of the used diaper. By pushing the persons knees towards his or her chest, you are now able to clean the person more easily. Now it's a matter of putting on a new one and disposing of the used diaper.
