The best way to use a headlight restoration kit is to follow the instructions that come with the kit. If that is impossible, take the kit to a mechanic who can help.

How do you make headlight lenses clear again after yellowing from the sun?

The easiest way is to purchase a Headlight Lens Restoration Kit by 3M. They are available at AutoZone and 3mestore.com. (~$20) The Kit contains basically all the tools needed to restore the headlight lens and you use it with your household drill. The results you will get are amazing! The cheap way is to mix tooth paste with glass cleaner. You'll be surprise.

How do you restoration headlight?

If you've got at least $10 and an hour, it is easy. Your local auto parts store has several Headlight Restoration Kits. Essentially, the clear coat on the plastic or acrylic headlight begins to break down after years of use. That is when oxidation and wear begins to set in. The kits polish or sand away this top layer to reveal a fresh clean layer underneath. The key is to ensure you get a kit with a protective coating to put on top of the freshly polished headlights. Yellowed, dull, or fogged headlights are a safety risk, so when you have a chance, get them clean! More information at: Mechanic In A Can (dot com). "Comparing Headlight Restoration Kits"

Can you replace the headlight lens on a Chevy Colorado and how does it come apart?

You can replace the whole thing, or you can use a restoration kit. You open it up by, I'm pretty sure, cutting the glue, then attach a buffer attachment to your drill. Then you use the solution and the buffer to clean up the lens before gluing it together again.

How do you take off the glass part on headlights to fix and clean them on a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais?

Most new cars have headlight "modules" that are not supposed to be taken apart. Are you sure they are dirty on the inside? I detail headlights at used car lots and most of the time the dirt is on the Outside. I use the CrystaLenz Headlight Restoration Kit to clean them it works really well. Check out their website www.crystalenz.com for more info

Do you have to use a drill for getting the yellow film off from headlight lens or is there a better solution?

Yes there absoulutly is. DO NOT TAKE ANY POWER TOOL TO YOUR HEADLAMPS. The film is actually oxidation on you headlamp coverss that deteriorate the plastic just like rust. Turtle was sells a kit specifically for this. Look at any autoparts store for a turtle wax headlight restoration kit. You will be surprised. Although the headlights are not 100% loke new, they wont be yellow. I would say about the result is sbout 85%-95% of what a new headlamp cover would be.

What do use to restore headlights on your car?

You need to do the following to restore headlights on your car; Headlight restoration kit Car wash solution, window cleaner or a spray bottle with cold water Masking or painters tape Power drill (optional depending on the restoration kit) Dry towels or detailing cloths Elbow grease and patience Instructions 1. Clean the headlight area with soap and water to remove surface-level dirt and debris. Windex or a household glass cleaner can also do the trick. Make sure the headlights are completely dry, and then move to Step 2. 2. Once dry, tape off the surrounding areas near the headlights (any of the car's painted body panels that touch the headlights). This is an important precaution as it prevents sanding damage to your car's paint during the restoration process. 3. Both headlight restoration kits provided a few different grits or strengths of sandpaper to use. Using a spray bottle filled with water or a provided lubrication liquid, dose the headlight and get the lowest number piece of sandpaper wet. 4. In a side-to-side motion, rub with pressure the lowest number (1,000 or 1) sandpaper piece across the headlight's surface, being careful not to touch any other part of the car's body. You want to create a full "glazed" look that covers the headlight assembly. Always keep the sandpaper piece and the headlight assembly wet with water. 5. Move on to the next highest number (2,000 or 2) grit of sandpaper, and rub across the headlight in an opposite up-and-down motion. Continue, unless instructed otherwise, to keep the sandpaper and headlight assembly wet.

How do you clean the frosted look off plastic head light covers?

There are a few aftermarket products made specifically for the restoration of hazy, yellow headlight lenses. For example, one product made by CCP called the "5 Minute Headlamp Lens Restorer" can be found in most auto parts stores. It's a chemical-free optical grade lens restorer that removes scratches, hazing, yellowing, micro-pitting, and that typical "frosted" appearance. The kit consists of several foam pads which are pre-saturated with a special polishing formula. You use a drill and a spray bottle of plain tap water and work on the lenses until clarity is restored - usually in less than five minutes. Another product is made by Permatex, called the Headlight Lens Restoration Kit. It's similar in principle, with a special plastic restoration polish you use with very fine sandpaper sheets (included) and a polishing cloth to restore the lenses. Feedback from customers have shown favorable results with either product.

Do you need a headlight kit for your halogen headlights?

Halogen headlamps must use halogen bulbs. "HID kits" are widely available, but they are (all) unsafe and illegal.

How do you take off a head light and clean it?

Hey Matt==If you would have stated what kind of car you are working on it would be simplier. There are screws that hold the light on and don't confuse them with the adjusting screws. GoodlluckJoe I detail Headlights at used car dealerships and I use the Crystalenz Headlight Restoration Kit. When you use this product you do NOT have to take the lights off. This product works really well, check out their website www.crystalenz.com for more info.
