Pip tells Jaggers that Orlick isn't to be trusted as a porter, and after some convincing, Jaggers agrees to "pay our friend off."

Orlick is a bitter and vengeful character who harbors a grudge against Pip for getting the job he wanted at Satis House. He becomes increasingly hostile towards Pip throughout the story, eventually leading to a violent confrontation. Pip sees Orlick as a dangerous and vindictive individual who is capable of great harm.
Orlick worked for Miss Havisham at Satis house because Joe said he didn`t need him anymore and so he needed another job. Another reason could be that he wanted to kill Pip
Joe is attacked by Orlick with a shovel at the Three Jolly Bargemen pub. Orlick resents Joe for being kind and just towards him, which leads to this violent confrontation.
Pip tells Miss Havisham about Orlick's threatening behavior towards him and others, causing Miss Havisham to dismiss Orlick from his position as her doorman.
Herbert saves him, after reading a letter that he dropped. He brings other people and they find him just before Orlick can kill him.

Pip believes origonally that it is the convict he gave the leg iron to and feels guilty, but the actual person who hit her was Orlick. this is why mrs. joe keeps drawing a hammer to represent Orlick.
