The primary purpose of the skeleton is to act as the framework of the body . Bones give shape to the body, and they also protect internal organs. However, if the skeleton is the framework of the human body, then the muscles are the driving force. The muscles of the body are connected to the bones via ligaments and tendons, and it is these long strands of thick cord that are used to make the body move.

The skeleton provides the structure which muscles adhere to. The muscles are connected to the bone by tendons that acts as a lever. When the muscle is contracted the joint will flex or extend. A very simple explanation to a complex series of events.
