No. Peer pressure makes it sounds like they are "actively" pressured to smoke. And that, frankly, is not the case. I started smoking, not because of an active pressure from friends, but a passive one. It was to gain entrance in a community of friends. All of them would go outside to smoke, and you don't want to stay inside...so you also go outside...then you begin slowly, etc, etc, etc....
Personaly i would say peer pressure because its somthing everybody goes through and its really hard to give in and there is alot of marketing for smoking but theres also alot of adverising against it.

This type of peer pressure can be intense and difficult to resist, leading individuals to engage in actions that may go against their values or beliefs.

Having positive friends increases confidence and self-esteem. If this peer pressure happens at school, it could improve a teen's grades or even friends.

Yes it is highly likely that this is the case. Peer pressure is the pressure of someone wanting to be part of a group or stay in the crowd and they feel if they don't they will lose their friends. What kind of friends would pressure them anyway? So when their friends start smoking they are pressured into doing it and eventually get addicted. It is also the thrill of doing something dangerous and forbidden that temps teenagers.
peer pressure by friends, curiosity and maybe depression
