Because Japan is a series of islands, located far enough from the Asian mainland to make travel there inconvenient, the Japanese population is somewhat confined. Japan is one of the most industrialized societies in the world. This coupled with Japan's fairly large population, given its size, means that Japan is very densely populated. In cities, most people live inhigh-risesand large complexes. This density of population can easily lead to societal maladies ensuing from high population density, such as fast communication of disease, limited resources, competitive economics, pollution and sanitation problems, and unhealthy amounts of stress incorporated in the average citizen's everyday life.

Japan's physical geography affects people and their daily routines as they are an island nation with little ground. Because of this, many people live in small houses and utilize futons to sleep on at night.

Many of the Japanese people eat a LOT of fish (such as sushi) because they are surrounded by water and therefore have loads of fish as it is the only unlimited meal they can eat which is healthy (full of proteins) and because other foods are imported from other countries.
