The pulmonary artery carries De-oxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs; the pulmonary veins carry OXYGENATED blood from the lungs to the left atrium.

Just in case you're wondering what Oxygenated and De-oxygenated mean, Oxygen means filled with/contains Oxygen, whereas De-oxygenated means the opposite: does not contain Oxygen.

First of all, arteries take blood away from the heart and veins carry blood toward the heart. Pulmonary refers to the lungs. So, the pulmonary artery takes blood away from the heart, to the lungs to be oxygenated. Then the pulmonary vein takes it back to the heart.

The pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein originates in the heart.
