A red cabbage indicator is a liquid made from mashed up red cabbage which you then put in a liquid to see whether it is acidic or not.
If it is acidic the liquid would turn reddy orange and if it was an alkali ( the opposite to acid) it would turn purpley blue.
This is if the liquid was clear in the first place.
The red-cabbage indicator smells like cabbage, nothing else...
No, it is natural, coming from "red cabbage".
Nothing, but red cabbage is a simple pH indicator at home (red in acidic solutions).
Red Cabbage
Red Cabbage and Beetroot can be used but what else?
You can use Red Onion but it doesn't work as well as cabbage. (but of course it does stink)Hope this helps
red cabbage is the natural pigment that can act as an indicator.
Filtration
anthocyanin
It is important to release a liquid.
put small pieces of purple cabbage in hot water and stir it and leave it for 20 min and take only water. if indicator turns substance red it is acidic ,if blue then basic if no change then neutral
The universal indicator is better than the red cabbage indicator because the universal indicator has a wider range of pH that it can explain why a substance is acidic or basic. The red cabbage indicator only tests the substance if it is an acid or a base. Also, the universal indicators are made carefully and it is manufactured in a precise manner so the results are very reliable. Red cabbage indicators will vary in concentration which could cause errors to occur in determining the pH of a substance.
