Frederick Douglass was a prominent advocate for equality, self-defense, and self-help, particularly for African Americans during the 19th century. He believed that all individuals, regardless of race, deserved equal rights and the ability to defend themselves against oppression. Douglass emphasized the importance of self-empowerment and education as means for marginalized communities to achieve equality. His writings and speeches championed the idea that self-defense was a natural right for all individuals.
