Crossing over into the Sonic & Knuckles side of the game from the Sonic 3 portion with all 7 Chaos Emeralds in hand allows you to attain the Super Emeralds which are the enhanced versions of the Chaos Emeralds, powered up by the power of the Master Emerald. Attaining all 7 of the Super Emeralds with Sonic or Knuckles will allow either of them to change to their "Hyper" Form whereas Tails becomes "Super Tails" and has some of the animals saved from Robotnik in super form as well helping him. Therefore the Super Emeralds must be Stronger than the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic and Knuckles' Hyper Forms include increased speed over their Super Forms, as well as them glowing a ranges of colors other than just the golden glow they have in their Super modes.
