About three months.
Airmail takes a few days, surface mail may take over a month. Your choice.
Yes if it's Printed Paper. I don't think so for anything else.

Yes it is. So lets say you were in Australia and you sent something to your niece in Ireland.

The Royal Mail will charge £3.50 for a standard letter or card via Air Mail, it should arrive in 5 days.
1-2 weeks maybe 3 weeks.
It's supposed to take between 8 and 12 weeks. However, my experience of surface mail is not good. Posted six parcels all around the same time. Two got sent airmail, one arrived after 11 weeks and three never arrived at all. Having looked on the Internet it seems to me that parcels regularly going missing when sent surface mail. Recommend you take the insurance out or spend the extra on sending it airmail.
The UK Royal Mail website says 5 days for Air Mail, and 2 weeks for surface mail. For a letter these are almost the same price, so you're much better off using Air Mail. For packages the prices differences are greater, so you may prefer the less-expensive Surface Mail if you have unlimited time.
Surface mail is mail that is sent via a ship (surface of the earth) rather than buy Airplane (air above the earth!)
Surface mail is overseas mail that goes by ship rather than by air. Parcel mail is for parcels.
