they rub together and go on top of each other
The shifting in tectonic plates causing pressure making said quakes
The tectonic plates are constantly moving around and if (or even when) they hit each other they cause earth quakes and even volcanoes.
Convergence of tectonic plates, which can cause earth quakes and tsunamis.
Movement of tectonic plates which are parts of the Earth's crust.
Sometimes they do.
An earthquake is a sudden shaking of the ground caused by the movement of tectonic plates beneath the Earth's surface. This movement releases energy in the form of seismic waves that can cause damage to buildings and infrastructure. Earthquakes can range in severity from minor tremors to devastating quakes with widespread destruction.
Tectonic plates are able to slide along due to the continuous movement of the Earth's lithosphere, which is the outer rigid layer. This movement is driven by the underlying asthenosphere, a partially molten layer that acts as a lubricant, allowing the plates to move. The interactions between plates at their boundaries, such as divergent, convergent, and transform boundaries, also facilitate their sliding movement.
the theory of plate tectonics is that subduction occures on the edges of the tectonic plates creating a movement. When the tectonic plates push or pull apart with enough pressure an earthquake starts. That is why California has major earth quakes. The pacific plate is grinding California in a horizontal movement. Once the pressure is released a tsunami could happen.
