The dont really defend themselves so much. Their defence is speed and camoflage (they blen in with many anemities) and other coral to avioid bring eaten but as far as actual defece, they dont really have one.
Clownfish form symbiotic relationships with sea anemones. The sea anemones have poison in their tentacles which the clownfish has become immune to. Predators know that the sea anemone is poisonous and they tend to leave the clownfish alone if it's near its poisonous host.
