How does the force on each individual member of a truss bridge affect the stability of the bridge?
The massive weight of each Pier and girder attached to the next pier and girder can not be moved by the ice or wind. There are censors in the concrete girders to monitor any small movements caused by heavy winds and ice. During construction with only a pier base in the water there was no or minimal movement.. Base = aprox. 2500 tons, shaft = 2500 tons aprox. girder =9000 tons drop in equled 1000 tons multiplied by 2 and you have the total combined weight of 2 girders attached together with post tension steel cables. then an expansion joint
