The iris is the coloured membrane in the eye that controls the amount of light entering the eye by expanding and contracting. The pupil is a hole in the centre of the iris. By expanding, more light will enter the pupil and by contracting less light will enter the pupil.

The iris dilates in dimmer light to allow more light into the eye through the pupil then lens, through the inner eye onto the retina, and finally to the optical nerve. The iris will contract when lots of light is exposed to the eye to allow less light into the eye, so we are not blinded.

The iris is the part of the eye that changes the pupil. When the iris makes the pupil smaller, less light gets into the eye. When the iris makes the pupil bigger, more light gets into the eye.
It controls the light that comes in by makeing the pupil smaller and thats how it controls the amount of light in.

The color of the iris changes as per color of the skin pigment. It has got circular muscles and radial muscles in it. In fight or flight responce, it is dilated through sympathetic nerve stimulation. In relaxed and stress free envirinment pupil is constricted via parasympathetic nerve stimulation.
Behind the cornea and in front of the lens is the iris, the circular pigmented band around the pupil. The iris works much like the diaphragm in a camera, widening or narrowing the pupil to adjust to different light conditions.It is made of sphincter and dilator muscles of the pupil.

Iris regulates the amount of light that enter your eye ball. It constricts when there is light of high intensity. It dilates when there is less light. So it protects the retina from light of high intensity and enables you to see in dim light.
