Claudius (the king) respects Hamlet as a son in the beginning. He even tells Hamlet that he hopes that he sees him as a father figure. Claudius views Hamlet as a son and hopes to eventually have Hamlet view him as a father.

Hamlet seems less concerned with the fact that Claudius is king than with the fact that he is his stepfather. In Act 1 Scene 2 we are told that Hamlet's desire is to return to Wittenberg University, suggesting that he is really not all that interested in running the kingdom. The only line which expresses resentment with Claudius being king (as opposed to being his stepfather, or just being Claudius), is that Claudius has "popped in between the election and [Hamlet's] hopes" Other than that, Hamlet does not talk at all about any desire to be the king himself or to make anyone else the king, even if he kills Claudius, which he talks about a lot. Obviously he would like most of all for his father to still be king, but that can't be.
