If we are wise enough then we will learn by our past mistakes and successes. Both can be help us in our present time of life to be better persons. If one has made mistakes we can remember the consequences of those mistakes. If our actions have been good then we can improve even further.

Are you asking why we learn about the past? Have you ever heard that history repeats itself? It does repeat itself...so, to prevent our making the mistakes we made in the past, we learn history. It's human nature to make those mistakes if we don't know what happened back then--so why shouldn't we rise above that?
