The string in Meldes experiment can be made to vibrate in several ways. In most schoolphysics experiments the devices are:

1) loudspeakertype vibrator, where a rod is connected to a loudspeakermembrane and transmits the oscillations to a wire mounted on the end of the rod.

2) small DC-motor with an arm attached to the rotor. The string is attached to the arm, which moves up and down

3) electrical vibrator with coils and vibrating metalblade. The string is attached to the metalblade.

In each case the device is driven by a signal-generator that outputs a harmonic electric signal.

Benjamin Franklin, in his kite experiment.

Why does your Toyota Sienna van start to vibrate at 65-70 mph?

Tires out of balance, worn driveline, bad tie rod/suspension parts. Sometimes, it is just the pavement causing a vehicle to vibrate.

What is heat transfer through conduction?

Conduction refers to heat transfer through solids. It is due to conduction that if we heat one side of a rod and place our hand on the other side, we feel the heat. What, basically, happens is that at the point that you have heated the rod, the particles gain more energy. As the particles in a solid are fixed in their position - and can only vibrate - due to the increase in eneery, the particles vibrate faster about their equilibrium positions. When they vibrate faster, they cause the particles around them to also vibrate faster, increasing their temperature. When these particles also start vibrating faster, the cycle is repeated and they cause the particles around them to also vibrate faster, increasing their temperature as well. In this way, the disturbance is spread all over the rod, which is why you feel the heat on the other side of the rod, even though that side is not in direct contact with the heat.

Why did Benjamin Franklin do his lightning rod experiment?

He wanted to see if lightning and electricity were the same.

Who is noted for scientific achievements on electricity and his kite experiment to study lightning which lead to his invention of the lightning rod?

Benjamin Franklin invented the lightning rod.

What is a vibro sword?

What happens to the motion of the copper atoms in the rod as it is heated?

They vibrate and pass the vibrations along which spread the heat.

Who invented lighnting rods?

Ben Franklin created The Lightning Rod after his other kite-in-a-lightning-storm experiment.

Why rinse stirring rod?

Rinsing a stirring rod is important to prevent contamination of the solution or reaction mixture. By rinsing the rod with a solvent or water, any residual material from a previous experiment or reaction is removed, ensuring the accuracy and purity of the next experiment or reaction.

Why does your 99 Yukon wobble and vibrate at 55 mph?

A 1999 Yukon might wobble and vibrate at 55 miles per hour if there is a problem with a wheel. There could be a tie rod loose, bad ball joints, or even a tire that is out of balance. Also check the motor mounts.
