Spotted Owls are found in the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges. They nest in large pine groves at higher elevations. To see pictures of basic habitat, search for the Sierra National Forest. The Spotted Owls declining population was cause for a ban on commercial logging operations in central California during the 1990's. The logging was said to have been endangering their habitat.

THE SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AN SPOTTED OWL ARE STAYS IN ITS HOLE FOR THE HOLE DAY AND COMES OUT AT NIGHT.IT PRAYS BEFORE IT COMES OUT OF ITS HOLE.BY:MARILANDYEstevez
Owls are becoming extinct because their habitats are disappearing. The northern spotted owl has lost habitat to the logging industry, and are on the endangered species list.
By buying large tracts of forest where the bird lives, to protect it from logging operations, as habitat loss was a major reason for the decline of this species. Also, the closely related barred owl, Strix Varia, has moved into areas where timber has been thinned, and is hybridizing with the spotted owl. This alone can push the spotted owl closer to the edge, as the barred owl is a much more common species, and can thrive in cutover woodlots, where the spotted owl requires larger, more dense forests.
A bird of dense northwestern forests, the spotted owl's habitat was being slowly destroyed by unregulated logging, clear cutting the forests where the bird lived. Then, as select cutting was introduced, to avoid destroying the forests completely, a close relative, the more aggressive barred owl, began showing up in increasing numbers, displacing the spotted owl. The barred owl does well in cut over forests, and is pushing the spotted owl closer to the brink.
The spotted owl is Strix Occidentalis, related to the barred owl, Strix Varia.
10 bones are spotted
The Spotted Owl faces the danger of the loss of its unique habitat type. It also faces encroachment from the Barred Owl, low rate of reproductive success, and low survival rates for the juveniles.
Yes, yes it is to some animals like the small screech owl. If spotted by a larger owl it will have a harder time winning.
they have big eyes LOOK INTO MY EYES!!! LOL
