How does the structure of a bone make it strong yet lightweight?

Bone get their strength from a structure of calcium carbonate reinforced with protein fibers. This is analogous to the structure of reinforced concrete made of concrete reinforced with steel bars. In both cases the bulk material (calcium carbonate or concrete) provides compressive strength and the reinforcement (protein fibers or steel bars) both suppress crack growth and provide tensile strength.

Which is responsible for bone structure organic portion or inorganic portion?

The skeletal system is mainly responsible for bone structure. Bone cells will constitute the structure of the bone with osteoblasts facilitating the formation of bones.

What is a femur fracture?

Its when both femurs (thigh bone) are broken. They can either be closed or open. (The bone breaks through the skin or stays inline)

What is another name for the bone called the mandible?

The bones of the skull together are called the cranium. It consists of the frontal bone, parietal bone, occipital bone, zygomatic bone, mandible, maxilla, nasal bone, and temporal bone. The frontal bone creates the forehead and extends backwards into the largest bone, the parietal bone. It covers the back of the head down to the occipital bone. The temples of the head are covered by temporal bones on both sides and the nasal bone fits its name covering the area under the nose. The jaw is made up of the mandible, which is connected to the zygomatic bone. The zygomatic bone are the cheek bones and last but not least, the maxilla is the bone above the teeth and underneath the nose.

What is responsible for bone structure?

An organic molecule is a molecule which contains the element carbon. An inorganic molecule is the opposite. Almost all of the molecules that are inside the human body would be classified as organic molecules.

How doess the structure of bones make them both strong and lightweight?

Because most of the bone is made of spongy bone and it looks like a sponge in the inside so it is less dense and that is why it is light.

If a dog is bred with its sibling does the puppy have a weaker bone structure?

The puppies will have problems because of this inbreeding. One of these can be weaker bone structure. They have these problems because genetic problems that are usually masked by dominant genes are uncovered by two recessive genes that both siblings received from their parents.

What is the structure of your lower legs and arms?

Both your lower legs and lower arms are made of two bones each. The radius is the larger bone of the arm, analagous to the larger tibia of the leg. The ulna is the smaller bone of the arm, while the fibula is the smaller bone of the leg.
