In my opinion it varies for each individual just like life. There are good times and situations and there are bad times and situations, how you react to them, and what you take from them is up to you.

A slightly different opinion:Every experience in life leaves its mark or stamp on you. The military is just a little different. The military experience, beginning in Basic Training, is much more intense than any other experience of life. depending on your duty station after basic, the mark that is made may be greater or less. the fact is however that once you are in the military, the military will never quite be out of you.
