Most of the "vikings" during the viking age where not vikings at all. They were farmers. A viking is not a nationality, but rather a profession that was undertook most commonly by the 2nd sons of chieftains and kings to make a name for themselves, inviting along their friends and hired soldiers to fill up the ranks.
Vikings tended to wear Chainmail Armor, as well as helmets though no Viking helm was ever recorded as having horns. They also often carried a large wooden sheild.

Every Norse warrior who had a choice would choose a Sword, swords were expensive and a sign of status, if you had a sword people knew you were someone important. But the common Viking would have to let an Axe or a Spear do.

Well, seeing as the vikings were a very warriorlike people, he probably had a weapon of some sort, whether that was an axe or a sword, i can't tell for certain.
A battle axe is a heavy axe that can penatrate a knight's armor and it can chop off someone's head. It is so heavy that, if you miss, you won't have time to swing it again. It was first used by the vikings.
