Toycie and Beka had a sister-sister relationship.... they were like best friends and Beka looked up to Toycie. She saw her as a rode model. Beka and Toycie spent alot of time together.... they were much more than friends....However, seventeen year old Toycie and fourteen year old Beka had an unusual relationship as well. They were too close if you take their ages into consideration. Toycie was naive and childlike which allowed her to share that kind of relationship with Beka.
Toycie can be blamed for her pregnancy for several reasons: Toycie was intelligent, she knew she only need another year to graduate and get a job, Toycie wanted the high life like the southside rich homes which she loved to walk by on Sunday afternoons, She thought she was raising her status to get with Emilio, all the signs suggested her life would not turn out well if she got with Emilio, eg. his mother was hoity, they had to hide their relationship and Emilio was in school just like her Beka warned her he would not marry her,
Bill Lamb is the father of Beka Lamb in the novel. He is basiccally the breadwinner of the family with an extreme temper.
Bill Lamb is considered to be Beka's Father and Lilla Lamb's husband in the novel, Beka Lamb. He has good intentions but could be seen as harsh as he calls Beka words like fake and phony.
Maybe Beka Lamb can't afford to buy a school and nobody can teach them. Education was important because females in this time was only domestic workers, as shown in the novel. it was important that Beka finish school so she can become more than a stay home wife; or even worse, become like Toycie who got pregnant and feel out of school leading to deep depression and her death
chapter 6 in beka lamb is as borin as all the other chapters. i suggest u read an interestin book like harry potter if you dont want to fall asleep while readin. :)
A bridge isA structure carrying a road, path, railroad, or canal across a river, ravine, road, railroad, or other obstacle. This can be connected to the fact that Beka is traveling from immaturity to maturity while passing over the 'filth'/ challenges that came her way. Also, if u look at the symbolism in the dream, you can say that it represented life - hers as well as Toycie's. It was like a nightmare where she was in Toycie's place, her life canting downwards and ending up in a mess.
She got beaten one time and got a cut on her face, but she deserved it because she lied, and in the Caribbean getting a few "Good Claps" like Beka got is nothing really. ___________ I would say that being beaten is abuse, whether you did anything wrong as a trigger or not... and no matter where you live. Even if a certain society accepts abuse, it doesn't mean it *isn't* abuse. but she was not that bad to get beaten
How did Toycie Died?During the night of the heavy storm near the end of the book, Toycie who is in a weak mental condition wonders away during the preparation for the storm and a mango tree falls on her head, shattering her skull and killing her.
‘All right then, but try not to fret too much, especially on a day like today.
well i think it's a thrid world contry.... sooo i think it's simple and a lot of chickens...i tink where beka lamb lived was or probly still is a place where there was high racial prejudice. Dere was probly isolation in where the whites n blacks lived and also seein dat dis story waz based on Belize it holds alot of political affairs where the blacks were fightin 4 dere independence. dis shows d g8tnes of black ppl n dat dey shld not b treated unequal.
The simile "like a lamb" can mean someone who is calm, quiet and doesn't call attention to themselves. Like a lamb means gentle.
