Commercial cinemas and movie theaters invest large amounts of money to install very high resolution imaging systems.
Television is restricted to 1080 lines, much lower than cinema systems. The exception is LG who have reduced their resolution to just 540 lines to each eye.

It's not normal to get headache and eyestrain. Some viewers do report discomfort after watching 3D. If you suffer discomfort, stop watching and let your eyes rest.
Avatar is out in a regular format, as well as digital 3D and IMAX 3D.
I don't think there are 3D specific cinemas out there yet.

As the movie was meant to be seen in 3D I doubt there is a cinema that shows a non-3D version in cinemas.

3D movies can be shown in any thearter its up to management to run 2D or 3D prints of the film . call ahead.
