What are the advantages and disadvantages of channelisation?

Disadvantages-Although the river is shorter and he water will flow quicker there is a lower area so the river can still overflow.-Where water flows faster it stops erosion so if there is an increase in water the river will not be able to get bigger and consequently will flood. It also means no drainage can enter the river causing floods in other places.-It is expensive.-Can disrupt natural habitats.-Once a river is channelised its very difficult to repair or get it back to its original state if does not work.
