Thus, water pulls itself up the xylem as it exists the stomata of the leaves in transpiration and is held in place in the xylem id a strong transpirative pull is not being exerted at a certain moment.

If amount of water traspired by a plant, in a given time, exceeds the amount of water absorved; it will lead to wilting of plant and the rate of transpiration will be reduced.
