There are many other hormones associated with this function but these two hormones are the chief regulators for blood sugar. Insulin decreases the blood sugar level by allowing the glucose receptors of cells to open up and the cell absorb the glucose from the blood for their metabolic pathways. This reduces the amount of sugar in the blood.
Glucagon is antagonistic in function to Insulin.
