The Japanese essentially don't celebrate Christmas, they aren't a Christian country. They are Buddhist.
They do however have Christmas shopping etc as this helps the stores to sell more goods. Also in Japan on Christmas Eve it is very popular for young couples to go on dinner dates together. Somewhat like Valentines Day in the west. Boys may spend huge sums of money buying gifts and getting a good restaurant etc. It is not Christmas as such they are celebrating however but more the romance of the Christmas season and being with a nice girl.
Only if there are Christian or if they just celebrate it for the heck of it.
