I'm currently learning Portuguese. If you have a previous understanding of any other latin based language such as spanish or italien etc it will make your life A LOT easier.
For someone like me who knows only English its a lot harder, within say 15 hours of hard work or lessons though you should be able to speak very basic sentences and have a small base of vocabulary. Enough to have a simple conversation.
I would suggest either having private lessons or download Rosetta Stone or something

A portuguese speaker might ask you, "Qual é teu nome?" The easy response is, "Sou _____." Literally, one would translate "meu nome é _____."
One easy way to learn Portuguese is to practice regularly with native speakers, use language apps or online resources, watch Portuguese movies or TV shows, and listen to Portuguese music or podcasts to immerse yourself in the language. Joining a language exchange group or taking a course can also help you improve your skills.

If you find Spanish to be easy to learn, you'll probably have a similarly easy time learning Italian or Portuguese, or French to a certain extent.
