How effective is boot camp?

Prior to starting active duty in the military, people have to endure boot camp. Boot camp is effective with instilling a sense of discipline, and self preservation. During boot camp people are excercised physicly and mentally. There will be weapons training which is a good introduction on how to use basic military firearms, such as the M-16 rifle and the 9mm Baretta pistol.
