my Mercury 2000 sable is running lean--how expensive to fix?
The way I read this, is the questioner want to purchase a new 02 sensor because the vehicle is running lean(??)
The sensor is not the CAUSE of the lean condition - it is only the sensor which reported the reading that the computer then has interpreted to be a lean condition.
Something else is happening that is generating the scan codes - likely some type of vacuum leak - air getting into the system that the computer is unaware of.
It's kinda like buying a new thermometer when it reports you have a fever, in order to get rid of the fever.
Btw, the car's diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) will be much more specific when the 02 sensor really is failing.
