If there is a car at an intersection expect it to pull out in front of you. If there is an oncoming car expect it to come into your lane and be prepared to take evasive action.
You should see as far ahead as you can. The farther you can see, the more time you have to prepare for whatever your are approaching, and for whatever is approaching you.
