A young elephant is called a calf. Calves become mature at around 10 to 13 years old. Females will live with her mother's herd for life and start breeding at age 13. Males will leave the herd and join a bachelor herd. The males will come back from time to time to check in on the herd.

It depends on whether the bull has been with the herd for a long period of time, or if he's been separated for a time and is put in with the cow herd at the start of breeding season, which usually should have began a month earlier than 4 months. Usually, though, the calves are not in danger of getting hurt by the herd bull.
Richard Herd is 78 years old (birthdate: September 26, 1932).
It depends. Are you talking about the herd for example: "A herd of sheep." or do you mean for example: "I heard you back there!" If you are talking about the herd as in a herd of sheep then you spelled it right, if you mean the hearing type of herd then it's: "Heard" instead..

A calf is weaned at around 3 months of age (if bottle-fed) or 6 to 10 months of age if nursing from his mother. He learns to become independent from his mother during this weaning process. But he will forever be dependent on the herd since cattle are instinctively herd animals, and thrive in a social environment that includes many of themselves in a herd.
Herded: "After recess the teacher herded the children back into the classroom."
