How far can a locomotive go?

What kind?
Electrics, forever.
Diesels, until their fuel runs out, but that usually well over a thousand miles.
Steam was mostly limited by the water it used - normally below 100 miles.
.... but there were special tricks (like water pans) that allowed up to 1000 miles non-stop.
