Given the rudimetary optics (lens) and the tiny retina, the ability to detect detail is extremely poor - it's for sensing light sources.

But you could say that a snail sensing the sun is seeing about 93 million miles!

On that basis, I can see hundreds of light years (distant stars)

Tortoises CAN hear - although they lack external ears, they have an opening on each side of the skull that leads to the eardrum. Their hearing isn't as well developed as ours but they CAN hear sounds.
