Palau is a tiny country consisting of several hundred islands, lying to the east of the Philippines. Its largest island is Babelthuap (Babeldaob). Other important islands include Koror and Peleliu. In 2006 the seat of government was changed from Koror to Melekeok on Babelthuap. Palau's rock islands are world famous for their natural beauty. For many years Palau belonged to a group of islands governed by the US. Palau is still heavily dependent on US aid.
