There are a couple routes to take.

ROUTE 1 involves taking the ferries, and is 260 miles to Myrtle Beach from Frisco taking this route:

  1. Take NC-12 SOUTH, from Frisco, to JCT U.S. 70 on Cedar Island; continue straight onto U.S. 70 WEST to BEAUFORT and MOREHEAD CITY. Between Frisco and JCT U.S. 70, you will be taking TWO DIFFERENT CAR FERRIES. The first car ferry that you will take is from HATTERAS to OKRACOKE. This ferry is free, and takes 40 minutes. The second ferry is from OKRACOKE to CEDAR ISLAND. This is a toll ferry, and takes 2 hours, 15 minutes. Reservations are recommended. For more information see the related links below.
  2. From Cedar Island, you will take U.S. 70 WEST to NC-24 WEST to JACKSONVILLE, at the outer edge of Morehead City; turn left onto NC-24 WEST.
  3. Take NC-24 WEST to U.S. 17 SOUTH to WILMINGTON.
  4. Take U.S. 17 SOUTH to Myrtle Beach.

ROUTE 2 is 415 miles, and involves driving up to Nags Head and then taking the bridge westbound out of the Outer Banks, thereby avoiding the ferries. This is the route:

  1. Take NC-12 NORTH, from Frisco, to JCT U.S. 64; turn left onto U.S. 64 WEST.
  2. Cross the three bridges out of the Outer Banks, and then continue on U.S. 64 WEST (which eventually becomes a FREEWAY) to I-95 SOUTH to FAYETTEVILLE off EXIT 464A, near Rocky Mount.
  3. Take I-95 SOUTH to SC-38 EAST to MARION (and to MYRTLE BEACH) off EXIT 181A in South Carolina.
  4. Take SC-38 EAST to U.S. 501 SOUTH to MYRTLE BEACH, outside of Marion.
  5. Take U.S. 501 SOUTH to Myrtle Beach. If you are going to the northern part of Myrtle Beach or North Myrtle Beach, take SC-22 EAST (Conway Bypass).
