The modern horse is the result of selective breeding for thousands of years. Medieval horses were prized for their strength not speed. They were big and heavy and most likely would not be able to keep up with the present day Thoroughbred.

all i know is that a full grown bear can run as fast as a horse so i imagine it could run 100 meters pretty fast. A bear can run 100 yards in 6 seconds, over uneven ground! A bear can out run, out swim and out climb a man.
