Punctuated equilibrium.
The fast of evolution is called natural selection or survival of the fittest. It is a key mechanism in the process of evolution where organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and reproduce more successfully.
A long generation time makes for a slow evolution rate, and a short generation time makes for a fast evolution rate.

Evolution can occur at different rates depending on various factors such as the generation time of the organism, environmental pressures, and genetic variability. In some cases, evolution can be slow, taking thousands to millions of years for noticeable changes to occur. In other cases, evolution can happen relatively quickly, especially when organisms face changes in their environment that require rapid adaptation.
there are two different rates that evolution could occur at. the first kind is gradual, which is small changes over time. the other kind is fast and it occurs when there is a big change the environment.
There's actually no good answer to this question, because we don't know whether it was very fast or not. We are the only species to have evolved speech, so we really can't compare to see whether we were fast or slow. As it is, we'd expect cultural evolution to be many times faster than biological evolution, because it doesn't follow the same rules. Biological evolution is limited to vertical gene transfer; culture can spread its memes - ideas, habits, language patterns, etc, far and wide without having to wait for a new generation to emerge.
Mitsubishi built the Lancer Evolution. If you want to go obscenely fast cross-country with minimal effort and still have a car that is practical family transport, the Evolution is the real deal. There's nothing for less than $45,000 that will cover ground as fast on secondary roads. If you want a car that shouts about you and your status in life, the Evolution isn't for you; but if you want a car for speed, then it is. The amazing thing is that it's a Mitsubishi-and even more amazing, it's based on the Lancer.
The smallest biological unit that can evolve over time is an individual organism, typically a unicellular organism like bacteria or archaea. These organisms can undergo genetic mutations and natural selection, leading to the evolution of their populations over generations.
