The Space Shuttle can travel over 17,500 MPH
The shuttle's speed is close to 230 km an hour so that is the way it can orbit hte earth close to 50 times a day.
The NASA Crawler transporter moves at a speed of about 1 mile per hour when transporting a space shuttle. This slow speed is necessary to ensure the stability and safety of the shuttle during transportation.
17,750 mph to 19,000 mph
The fastest space shuttle was the Space Shuttle Columbia, which reached a top speed of about 17,500 miles per hour (28,000 kilometers per hour) during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere.
The space shuttle is bolted to the top of the 747 carrying it with extremely heavy duty bolts. The pilots of the 747 also have to fly lower and at a reduced speed in order to keep everything in place. While a typical 747 can reach speeds of about 570 mph, a 747 with a shuttle attached can only reach half that speed if everything is to run smoothly.
By attaching it to the top of a modified Boeing 747.
The big fat end point
fast the top speed on a cr250 is 85
most of the time, a space shuttle is sent unmanned to space with the satellite on the top of the shuttle. Then they send the sattelite further into space for good precision on the Earth, or other planets.
At a top speed of around 30,000 Km per hour, in theory it would take around 160,000 years to reach Proxima Centauri. In practice, the Space Shuttle is not able to break out of Earth orbit to start such a journey.
