What are some trade-offs of using pesticides?

The use of pesticides is very effective in preventing and killing pests that may potentially cause damage to crops. However, almost all pesticides cause air, water or soil pollution. When the soil is contaminated, there is lower soil quality and it causes crops to be contaminated and people who consume it may get poisoned. Water pollution will destroy marine life while air pollution may spread over large areas, affecting many people.

How agricultural development cause environmental degradation?

Agricultural development can lead to environmental degradation through deforestation, soil erosion, water pollution from pesticides and fertilizers, and loss of biodiversity due to habitat destruction. Intensive farming practices can also deplete soil quality and contribute to climate change through greenhouse gas emissions.

What are the two major sources of water pollution?

Water pollution can be caused by soil erosion. Due to agriculture and mining, which requires deforestation, the soil is not properly anchored down by the tree roots. When a heavy rain comes, the soil gets washed into the water bodies and cause pollution. Agricultural runoff of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides also cause water pollution. Factories sometimes discharge chemical and other waste into the water bodies located conveniently around the area. These waste are then channeled all over the rivers and lakes where it becomes contaminated.

What are some problems with soil?

there are all kinds of problems with, and that's why we need to take care of it. there is soil erosion, soil pollution, pesticides, nutrition pollution, drought, and mud slide.

What is a way to decrease the amount of water pollution?

Use contour plowing, and plant lines of trees and tall grasses to provide vegetative buffers to reduce runoff and soil erosion. Some organic farms use no-till methods (not plowing) this greatly reduces the amount of soil lost to erosion. Pesticides and nitrates from fertilizers, and animal are a major cause of water pollution. It is estimated that farmers spray 10lbs of chemicals on each acre, and 20% of the chemicals runoff into local rivers and streams. The reduction of chemical pesticides and fertilizers help. Also, the creation of a wetland or marsh around the area helps to take up the nitrates from fertilizers and animal wastes.
