They aren't fast and they aren't luxury cars, the interior is made from low-cost plastics, there is a fair bit of road noise and the cup-holders were designed by a 5-year-old. Everything (except the cup-holders) was designed that way to keep the vehicle affordable, efficient, and simple though. I have averaged 64 MPG while cruising with slightly larger-than-stock tires at a constant 60 MPH on a hilly and windey(it curves and winds, not blowing wind) road from Anchorage, AK to Fairbanks, AK(400' elevation gain over about 400 miles). It is also rated by several sources (consumer reports, edmunds, autoweek) to have the lowest cost of ownership over a 200,000 mile period. This is a great comparison because it considers initial price, insurance rate, fuel economy, repairs, and maintenance cost.

I have owned MANY vehicles in my life and must say that as a consumer AND as a professional automotive technician, this is the best value for the dollar vehicle you will ever find.

P.S. We just hit the 150,000 mile mark on our '09
