By building three stage rockets that can finally reach 17,000 mph. Each time a stage separates, the upper stages have smaller masses and so the rocket is given a huge boost in speed by a law known as 'conservation of momentum'. This final speed is near to the escape velocity of the Earth and means that the final stage falls around the Earth in what we call an orbit.
