The appearance of peoples teeth have changed greatly over the centuries. Originally people understood little of the importance of toothpaste in contrast to today. As a result humans, centuries ago, did not have a full set of teeth. The teeth that still hung loosely from their gums were often darkened and rotten.
However as technology and new priorities have arisen such as dental health, society has also changed and in this case most would say for the better.
Developments in toothpastes can whiten the colour of our teeth as well as improve the smell of our breath. This means that people will not be judged upon so much by their appearances as long as the teeth are brushed regularly. This, on the other hand means that it doesn't only depend on the advances in the technology but also in the commitment of the user to the brushing of his/her teeth.

Another advantage is that it is easier for people with arthritis to use an electric toothbrush over a regular one.
