well it could be as heavy as you want but i think the question you were trying to ask was how heavy should it be? you might worry about your child's back because its true carrying or lifting something very heavy can hurt your back. don't worry too much unless he/she is carrying unnessasary things. if there is a novel, textbook. a couple folders, coloring/writing utensils, don't worry! that's normal it should be around 20 lbs. if its under that's great!
