Homologous chromosomes are chromosomes in a cell that come together during cell division to create gametes. They can carry the same genetic information, such as hair color, in the same location on the chromosome. However, they can also carry different genetic information. Chromosomes having the same genes at the same loci, but possibly different alleles. For example, two chromosomes may have genes encoding eye color, but one may code for brown eyes, the other for blue.
