8:00am or 08:00 using the 24 hour system
2 oclock in the morning
Between 8 am and Noon are 4 hours = 240 minutes. Let T = 240 - x, and T - 60 = 3*x. Where T is right now, T-60 is one hour ago, and x is the number of minutes before noon, and 3*x is the number of minutes after 8am. Substitute the first equation into the second & solve for x: 240 - x - 60 = 3*x --> 180 = 4*x --> x = 45, So it is 45 minutes before noon (11:15), and 1 hour ago (10:15) it was 2 hrs 15 minutes after 8 am (135 minutes), and yes 135 is 3 times 45, so it works.
6am to noon = 6 hours noon to 3pm = 3 hours 6 + 3 = 9 = 8 + 1 8 hours work 1 hour lunch 15:00 - 06:00 = 09:00
Meridiem is the Latin for midday.Ante is the Latin for before.Post is the Latin for after. a.m. is the abbreviation of the Latin phrase ante meridiem - and means beforemidday.p.m. is the abbreviation of the Latin phrase post meridiem - and means after midday. Because we use a 12 hour clock we need to be able to distinguish which part of the day we mean when we say 8 o'clock. I don't want to hang around for 12 hours wiating for the 8:00 bus.
